West Hollywood
Soccer Club
The Mission
Founded in 1985, the West Hollywood Soccer Club Inc. is a nonprofit organization challenging sports stereotypes by building a safe, supportive community for all types of LGBTQ+ soccer players.
My Role
As the defacto designer and creative director, I’ve supported the club through self-initiated work - such as rebranding the club back in 2019, through designing all club apparel/swag, and assisting with the design of the club’s annual tournament – the Desert Pride Cup.

WHSC Club Rebrand
Not only is the WHSC organization Los Angeles’ only LGBTQ+ soccer club, but it’s also won three IGLFA World Championship titles - most recently this past year at the 2022 World Outdoor 7s Championships in Washington DC.
All that being said, the club didn’t have a symbol or a crest that lived up to this level of distinction.
This was the club’s previous crest / branding… and it wasn’t very original
My goal was to create a crest that helps elevate the club in a few ways:
Success
The stars represent our three IGLFA world championships: 1997 (DC), 2018 (Paris), & 2022 (Washington DC).
Simplicity
Let’s embrace the fact that clubs know who we are and own WHSC vs. West Hollywood Soccer Club.
History
Showcasing the history of the club by placing year of the club’s the formation front and center.
Inclusion
The circular shape of the crest is mean to represent inclusion, community, and unity.
Pride
The concentric rings represent a simplified and abstracted rainbow - the symbol of pride.
Here to Play
The bold typography and black/white color palette says that we mean business on the pitch.
WHSC Voice / Tone
The voice and tone of the club is equal parts simple and fun. We love a good pun, some word play, and putting a gay twist on classic copy.
WHSC Apparel
I’ve worked on apparel for the club for several years – designing everything from the members shirts, to team jerseys, to pride gear.
